WA TGAA History

The Turf Grass Association of Australia (TGAA) was formed in Melbourne, after a meeting at the MCG on 22nd November 1989. In July 2000 the Grounds Managers Association of Western Australia registered under the nation wide banner of the TGAA and at the same time re-establishing a turf association link with the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) that began back in 1946.

THE TGAA (WA)
The TGAA (WA) has successfully developed into a leading professional body representing the sports turf industry in WA. One of the main benefits of membership with the association is networking with others in the turf industry, which is an invaluable resource of skills and experience. The TGAA (WA) also encourages the professional development of members by holding regular educational workshops and seminars.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
The TGAA (WA) is committed to providing quality, up-to-date knowledge and training within the turf industry and as such invests strongly in education and research programs in the state, such as the UWA kikuyu research project.
The association has also established the ‘Lin Hambleton Bursary’ to provide one year of free tuition for a Turf / Horticulture student to study at Challenger TAFE, Murdoch.

SOCIAL EVENTS
For members we have introduced successful social activities, such as the AGM Golfday, and the end of year Christmas Lawn Bowls Day. A Presidents’ breakfast held early in the year is a valuable social forum designed to promote recent achievements and forthcoming association activities.

INDUSTRY SUPPORT
The TGAA (WA) is an active member of the Turf and Landscape Industry Association and continues to develop close ties with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of WA, the Bowling Greenkeepers Association of WA, the UWA Turf Research Steering Committee and Challenger TAFE Murdoch.
