Congratulations to former TGAA Victoria committee member Adrian Black and his team (pictured left) as AAMI Park wins two awards from Professional Footballers Association.  AAMI Park won the award for "Best pitch" and the "Best atmosphere" created by Melbourne Victory fans in a stadium. According to PFA Chief Executive Brendan Schwab, “The PFA Stadium Rating System is an important measure of two essential elements for the success of the A-League – the quality of play and the fan experience.  Fans should not underestimate the impact they can have on the intensity of an A-League match, especially where it is complemented by an outstanding playing field.”

TGAA Victoria continues to support "Turfies of the future" by sponsoring students from TAFE's with an award each year. Pictured (right) is Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) 2010 winner, Brodie Dorgan with his parents. Below is a group photo taken of award all NMIT 2010 winners. A great evening was had by all that attended. It was great to see some "old" faces from past committee members mingling with current members, have a laugh whilst hearing of stories of "old times" and nibble on some gourmet finger food. Bruce Stephens gave an insight into how the Association started 21 years ago and congratulations goes to Ian Kilgour from Active Safety, who won the weekend away for two. Thank you to all past committee and members of the Association as we look forward to the next 21 years.

Cricket pitch preparation book

Basic guide to turf cricket pitch preparation (PDF 8.25mg)
This book was written By John Shannon (Turf Management teacher NMIT and former Premier cricket player) and is a good basic guide to turf pitch preparation. In 1986, John Shannon was employed by the City of Camberwell (now Boroondara) and prepared pitches at local and sub district level. He also worked on pitches in England, and on golf courses in Melbourne and Scotland.

John played over 200 games of Premier Cricket and was also wicket keeper/opening batsmen/captain coach for North Melbourne. At this time, John was selected for the Essendon team of the century and is a life member of Essendon. For two years, John was a member of the Victorian State Squad and played numerous second eleven games. He has played at club level in Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Scotland.

This playing experience has given John an appreciation and understanding of what makes a good pitch and for the past eleven years, John has been teaching Turf Management at NMIT. This training book was written to assist people with little or no experience in cricket pitch preparation to prepare a suitable playing surface.
